We are starting 2017 with a lot of buzz around neural MT and its future impact on our industry. After several years of relatively steady output quality from traditional rules, stats and hybrid-based MT engines (which often required a significant amount of "MT Post-Editing"), we are entering a new era with MT output that approaches human-level quality. Should you be worried? Absolutely not! The Lionbridge vendor management team strongly believes that neural MT will open new opportunities for our translation partners. Many of our customers will now be able to process much larger volumes of content and your expertise will be required to bring the neural MT output to the desired quality level. You should simply expect an increasing number of tasks that will resemble current editing/proofreading assignments.
Stay tuned for more communication and training on neural MT in the coming year. Don't hesitate to reach out to your local vendor manager if you have any questions or concerns on this topic.
